Blog EntryThe longest 30minutes of our livesMay 1, '07 2:57 AM
for everyone

April 6, 20 07: 2:30a.m. tired from our holy week trip to Bagiuo and La Union half asleep when i saw in the corner of my eye, two shadows inside our bedroom. Thinking it was my son who went back to the house because he probably left something in our car, but it dawned on me that our gates at that time are locked from the inside, he is not one of this shadows!. Shouting, "who is there!!!" I was suddenly blinded by a flash of light and a stern voice saying," keep quiet! give us the money so you don't get hurt! I saw this third man brandishing a shinning 45 cal.pistol on me and my wife. It was now clear that we are being robbed and our lives are in emminent danger as two of them collected all our valuables while the other one watched over us as we are laying in our bed. 3:00a.m., hogtied and terrified the perpetrators left in haste. But thank God! we are alive and unharmed. It was indeed THE LONGEST 30mins. OF OUR LIVES!

For some days after I heard about it, I nagged the Lord, "why would something so bad happen to His people who are so good, so committed, so faithful, so dedicated, so generous, so kind and gracious!" I've also asked the same question few years ago when I heard for the first time that Billy Graham had Parkinson's, then prostate situation, then other creeping illnesses. And Billy is Billy! The same answer was given me by the Spirit as He reminded me of Joseph, David and Paul and all that they went thru, undeserved as they were. Joseph was destined by God to be a ruler but why he had to go thru all those pressures and testings before the dream is fulfilled is something I will never understand. If God is wanting to accomplish His great purpose, why would you or we have to go thru all the crooked lines. Well, Br Ed, Sis Meng, we don't have the neat answers - if I were in my Theology class, maybe I can blabber a good theological explanation BUT the nagging question will remain. All I know is that He is our sovereign God with a sovereign purpose that He wants to fulfill in our lives. He is in His throne and is not astonished at all by these seemingly "bad" things assaulting His people. I just have to sing with the prophet, "...though the fig tree doesn't blossom, though there be no herd in the barn... yet will I rejoice in the Lord of my salvation." hallelujah
